Sorry, No Picture! There is a very high mortality rate among rams and calves. During the rutting season the fighting rams are left exhausted and vulnerable to predators such as wolves. The young calves also fall prey to predators or die during the first winter from starvation. Only 40% of all the calves born live through the first year of life.
