Skunk Cabbage
Skunk Cabbage Symplocarpus foetidus grows wild in
swampy ground in North America. Its sheathing spathe
is rather fleshy and mottled in colour and it curves around
a short thick spadix that has flowers with both stamens
and pistils (perfect). The large leaves of Skunk Cabbage
appear after the flowers and when crushed all parts of the
plant give off an unpleasant skunky smell.
