Watermelon
Watermelon Citrullus vulgaris is an African species. It
is cultivated in the southern United States and in other
areas that provide enough warmth, as the plant is
sensitive to cold conditions. The fruits are large and
heavy and full of sweet juice which makes them refreshing
to eat especially in a hot climate. The seeds are black and
shiny and dispersed through the pink flesh which is 93%
water. A variety of this species produces citron melons
which are used in preserves.
