Pepper

Pepper Piper nigrum comes from Indonesia. The plant has pointed oval leaves with spikes of small flowers growing from their axils. The flowers form little green fruits that turn red when they are ripe and these berries are used to prepare pepper.
White pepper is made from ripe fruits and the stronger black pepper is made from unripe berries that have been dried in the sun.
It is cultivated in most tropical regions where soil moisture is constant and temperatures are reliably warm. [CH] [RA] {FW} {EB}
