North American Pawpaw
North American Pawpaw Asimina triloba is a member of the
Custard-apple Family not to be confused with the Papaya Carica
papaya which is also called Pawpaw but belongs to another family.
Asimia triloba is a shrub or tree which may grow up to ten metres
tall and it has pointed drooping leaves and purple flowers which bloom in the
spring before the leaves appear. The fruits can be eaten and they look a bit
like thick bananas that turn black as they ripen.
