Sorry, No Picture! Gerbils are popular house pets. Slightly larger than a mouse gerbils can be characterized by their small, furless ears, long tail, large hind limbs and large eyes which are characteristic of nocturnal animals. Gerbils have special adaptations which allow them to inhabit the hot Sahara environment of northern Africa. Like other dessert species, the gerbil has fur on the soles of its feet to protect the soft skin from the burning sand. MORE! [BM] {FW}
