Takin stand 3 1/2 feet at the shoulder and weigh between 500 and 600 lbs. This stout animal has a thick neck, broad muzzle, short legs and a heavy fur coat. The horns of the takin are short. In winter takin move about in search of food in small herds. In summer the smaller herds join together and form large herds which can number 300 individuals. Takin are found in the hilly and mountainous regions of China. [BM] {FW}
