Tawny Owl
The tawny owl is one of the most common owls in Europe. They are 15 inches in height and are
characterized by their large heads, strong talons and plumage of grey and brown with
undertones of yellow. These nocturnal birds hunt primarily by sound. However, they have large
eyes--a characteristic shared by all members of the owl family. They feed on small animals
such as mice, rabbits and birds.
