Manakin
Manakins form a group of small, social birds to which the Java sparrow is a member. Ranging
in size from 4 to 4.5 inches, the manakin often has brightly coloured plumage. Feeding
primarily on grass seeds, the manakin can be found in open country where there is a ready
supply of food. Several species of manakin, including the Bengalese finch and the spice
finch, have become popular cage birds. Manakins are found in the warmest regions of Asia,
including India, Australia, New Guinea, Africa and the island of Madagascar.
