Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly
(Family Nymphalidae)
This large North American fritillary has orange and yellow wings with strong black markings which
extend from the body. The gently scalloped wings, span from 5.5 to 7.5 cm. This day flying butterfly
can be found in temperate forests. The caterpillar is black with orange spines, feeding specifically on
violet leaves.
