In 1884 Togo became a protectorate of Germany. After WWI Togo was divided between France & Great Britain.France was granted the eastern two-thirds, & Britain received the western third. The division of Togo between France & Britain was approved by the League of Nations. British Togoland later became Ghana & French Togoland gained independence in 1960 & became the Republic of Togo.
