In the 19th century the Saud family rose to power & established a kingdom in the central region of Arabia. During WWI Britain aided the Saud family and British protectorates were established is several Arabian regions. In 1927 the British recognized the control of the Saud family & the kingdom was renamed Saudi Arabia in 1932. Saudi Arabia is ruled by an absolute monarchy which is based on Islamic law. The public activities of women are greatly restricted & alcohol is prohibited. [BM] {UA}
