Medieval Saudi Arabia

Many cultures have flourised along the western coast of the territory which is now known as Saudi Arabia. Arabia was to be unified under the influence of Mohammed. In 622AD Mohammed, the great prophet of Islam, fled from Mecca to Medina where he preached, converting many to Islam. His army captured Mecca & all of Arabia fell under Islamic rule. Mecca finally fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1517. The Ottoman Empire, however, was never able to establish complete control of Arabia. [BM] {UA}
