Several prominent kings ruled Medieval Norway. Norwegian prosperity & independence ended in the 14th century when Norway , Sweden & Denmark merged to form a united nation ruled by the Danes. The Danes ruled for four centuries, until the Napoleanic wars. In 1814 Denmark was forced to cede Norway to Sweden. In 1815 Sweden accepted the independence of Norway. [BM] {UA}
