In 1884 South-West Africa was claimed by Germany. During WWI British troops from South Africa occupied South-West Africa. In 1920 South Africa was accepted by the League of Nations as the administrator of South-West Africa. For many years South Africa administered control. However, tensions were rising. In 1966 guerilla warfare broke out between the South-West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) and South African troops. SWAPO was operating from bases in Zambia & Angola. [BM] {UA}
