Namibia consists of a high, semiarid & desert plateau. The inhospitable Kalahari desert, on the Namibian plateau, has been inhabited for many centuries. San hunter-gatherers have lived within the desert since ancient times. Slowly, Namibia was inhabited by various Nama & Bantu peoples, followed by Dutch and British explorers in the 18th century.
