Desert Rose Gypsum
Although gypsum (hydrous calcium sulphate) usually appears in transparent or waxy translucent
crystals, it also occurs in the shape of a blooming rose. The rose-shaped aggregates often have
sand grains within creating a reddish-brown colour. From this phenomenon arises the appropriate
name "Desert Rose."
