Jack Pine
Jack Pine Pinus banksiana has very short needles in clusters of two
and its cones are often curved in shape, which makes them quite distinctive.
This tree grows on poor soils and as its cones need heat to open them, Jack
Pine tends to grow in areas that have been burnt in forest fires. Its wood
is used for railroad ties.
