Eastern White Pine
Eastern White Pine Pinus strobus gets its name from the light colour
of its wood. Once forests of these beautiful tall trees covered huge areas
in cooler northern parts of the world but most of the old-growth forests
have been heavily harvested for timber and other wood products. The needles
are in bunches of five; if you are trying to distinguish between a Red Pine
and a White Pine just remember that there are five needles in a bunch and five
letters in the name "white".
