HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Family Cyperaceae

Sedge with dangling flower clusters Sedges (Cyperaceae) form a very large Family which together with the Grasses make up the Order Cyperales. Sedges have solid stems that are three-sided. You can feel these three ridges running the length of the stem, so when you are trying to decide whether a plant is a sedge or a rush, just remember that "sedges have edges" and the stem of a rush is smooth. The Sedge Family has about 3000 species and many of them like marshy conditions to grow in. [CH] {FW}
