Order Cyperales

Sedges with brown flowers The Order Cyperales has two very large Families, the Sedges and the Grasses. Sedges have grass-like leaves and very small flowers which grow in spikes or clusters. Most sedges have stems that are triangular in cross-section and you can feel these ridges running the length of the stem. Sedges tend to have solid stems and soft joints whereas Grasses have hollow stems and hard stem joints. [CH] {EN}
