Family Araceae
Many species in the Arum or Calla Lily Family
(Araceae) have a large leaf (spathe) that sheathes the
flowering stem or spadix, giving the plant a distinctive
appearance. The tiny flowers are arranged on the
spadix. The leaves in many members of this family are
unusual for monocotyledons as they have a branching
network of veins instead of parallel veins.
