HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Black Mangrove

MANGROVE ROOTS Black Mangrove Avicennia germinans is one of the mangrove species that belong to three different families. Mangroves are trees and shrubs of tropical coastal areas and salty river estuaries. The coast of Florida has extensive mangrove swamps which extend into the Everglades. The Black Mangrove takes hold after the Red Mangrove Rhizophora mangle has become established and has trapped silt in its network of prop-roots. Black Mangrove takes root in the silt and produces thin extensions from its roots which grow up into the air. [CH] {FW}
