Family Ophioglossaceae
Succulent Ferns (Ophioglossaceae) are primitive forms and are not very
closely related to other ferns. There are four genera and two of them,
Ophioglossum and Botrychium have species all over the world.
They are soft and succulent (juicy) plants without scales or thickened
tissues. Many are fairly small and quite difficult to find. Their spore
cases open by a simple slit to release the spores. The picture shows spore
cases of Botrychium.
