Common Cultivated Mushroom
The mushrooms we buy in the grocery store Agaricus
bisporus belong to a family Agaricaceae that has both
edible and poisonous species. Cultivated mushrooms are
grown in dark cellars on soil that contains plenty of
rotting organic matter. Under the cap of each mushroom
you can see a little collar on the stalk which is the
remains of the membrane that covers the gills of the
young fruiting body.
