Sorry, No Picture! These nocturnal rodents are found in dry steppes and semi-desert habitats. Feeding mainly on green plants, the steppe lemming requires little water, which is beneficial for a mammal living in such a warm and dry environment. Steppe lemmings breed prolifically and are commonly used as laboratory animals. Steppe lemmings are found in North America, Chinese Turkistan to Mongolia and southern Russia. [BM] {FW}
