There are 5 species of ground squirrels commonly known as prairie dogs. Prairie dogs reach an average length of 12 inches, with an additional 3 1/2 inches of flat, black tipped tail. The short fur coat of the prairie dog is yellowish grey with lighter underparts. The muzzle is blunt; the head is squirrel-like and the ears are small. MORE! [BM] {FW}
