Prairie dogs live on open plains in large colonies known as 'towns'. Some towns spread several hundred miles, spotted by burrows which several hundred million prairie dogs call home. These towns are subdivided into coteries, or small family units. Members of each coterie are very amicable with one another, greeting recognized members with a kiss. These same members will defend the borders of the family plot from members of other coteries. MORE! [BM] {FW}
