There are 2 species of beavers--the European beaver and the Canadian beaver. The beaver is the
second largest member of the rodent order. The beaver reaches lengths up to 3 1/2 ft, including a
foot long tail. The famed beaver tail is broad and flat, used to propel the beaver through the water,
slapped upon the surface when there is danger, used as a tripod support in conjunction with the
hind legs while the beaver is gnawing, and used to scoop mud for lodges and dams. MORE!
