Gestation lasts between 105 and 112 days. When the litter arrives, the number of cubs ranges between 2 to 5. These cubs are cared for by their mothers and are successful hunters by a year of age. Cubs are generally the last to feed on prey and there is a high mortality rate among the juveniles. Lions were once found throughout Africa, Europe, Asia and India.
