Both species have white vertical stripes on their upper bodies and a short haired mane. Elands form herds which usually number up to 20 individuals although herds up to 100 have been seen. The herd rests in the shade during the daylight hours, arising at dusk to feed. In this way the eland is able to conserve water and survive in the warm African climate. Furthermore, the dung of the eland is very dry, which also serves to conserve water. MORE! [BM] {FW}
