Pronghorn
The family Antilocapridae, to which the pronghorn belongs, dates back 20 million years to the
middle Miocene period. It is believed that at this time there were some 40 million pronghorn in
North America. The population of these deer-like mammals has been greatly reduced through lack
of habitat and excessive hunting. Those that remain are protected. MORE!
