Woodcreeper
The woodcreeper family contains approximately 50 species. They are small birds which are
almost identical to creepers through convergent evolution. The woodcreeper moves about a
tree, slowly spiralling upwards, searching every hole and crevice for insects and larvae to
eat. In this way the creeper moves from tree to tree in search of food. Creepers are
approximately 6 inches in length and have plumage decorated with differing shades of brown.
The woodcreeper has a sharp, pointed or slightly curved bill and stiff tail feathers, like
those of the woodpecker family. The claws of the creeper are long and curved to ensure a
solid, vertical assent. Woodcreepers are found in tropical America.
