Magpie
The magpie is a member of the crow family. Reaching an average length of 18 inches, this
fairly large bird has a long tail measuring about 10 inches. The magpie common to North
America is known as the black-billed magpie. It is predominantly black and white with a
green and blue iridescent sheen. Magpies predominantly eat insects. However, they are known to
eat almost anything. Flocks of magpies will even kill weak or sick livestock. The magpie is
known as a fortune teller, bringing good or bad karma depending on how many magpies one sees.
