This wading bird has a long, pointed bill, short neck and legs that are not very long. These characteristics allow the snipe to feed in the mud edging lakes, swamps and rivers. They feed on worms, insects and snails. The eyes are well set back and the plumage is mottled in varying shades of brown and white. The common snipe is 10.5 inches long and can be found in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. [BM] {FW}
