Eurasian Woodcock
Woodcocks are close relatives of the snipe and sandpiper family. They are approximately 13
inches in length and have brown and black mottled plumage. Like the snipe, the bill of the
woodcock is straight and the eyes are set well back on the head. The wings of the woodcock
are rounded and the body is compact. There are 2 species of woodcock, the American woodcock
and the Eurasian woodcock. The Eurasian woodcock is found in Europe, across Asia to Japan,
as its name would imply.
