The dunlin is a sandpiper. Sandpipers belong to the family of birds commonly known as waders. Wading through the water on long legs, sandpipers feed on small animals, such as worms, mollusks, mussels and fish. The name sandpiper is a common name given to those birds belonging to two subfamilies: Calidritinae and Tringinae.
