Backswimmer 2
(Order Hemiptera Family Notomectidae)
Backswimmers feed on tadpoles and small fish by sucking the body juices
from them. Their poisonous bite can cause swelling to a human, causing a reaction similar to a bee
sting. Backswimmers take to the air on warm summer evenings. By popping their bodies out of the
water they attempt to flip right side up. When this insect finally manages to straighten out, it spreads
its wings and flies.
