Lobsters are large crustaceans, covered by a hard, protective exoskeleton. The first 2 appendages are modified with strong claws. The larger claw is used for crushing and the smaller claw is used for cutting; lobsters can be right or left handed. Lobsters also have the amazing ability to self amputate a limb which has either been injured or is seized by a predator. This self amputation is called autotomy. A new limb replaces the amputated limb, growing slowly, reaching near normal size. MORE! [BM] {PF}
