Centipedes are commonly found in earth, under bark, in rotten wood and in small, dark places. When disturbed they run very quickly. They are predators, eating insects and other arthropods. All centipedes have poison emitting jaws with which to paralyze prey. Most of the smaller centipedes are harmless to humans, on occasion the larger ones can inflict painful bites. This photograph, taken in Trinidad, captures a gigantea centipede. [BM] {PF}
