Zambia has had a weak economy since independence. The country is primarily dependent on the export of copper. In the mid 1970's the world price of copper made a sharp decline. This led to unrest & economic problems which the government is still working to resolve. In recent years economic reform has helped Zambia repay 1.2 billion in debt. [BM] {UA}
