In the early years of the 20th century many Russians immigrated to Uzbekistan. Resentment towards the Russian immigrants was suppressed. In 1918 the Uzbek Socialist Republic was born thus establishing complete Soviet authority. Under Soviet authority agriculture was modernized & industry expanded. The major religion, Muslim, was brutally campaigned against by the Russians. [BM] {UA}
