Modern Netherlands
During the 17th century the
Netherlands, although small, aquired wealth and claimed a world empire which included
Indonesia, South Africa, Surinam &
parts of the West Indies. Well into the 20th century the
Netherlands remained a world power. Their strategic port location,
coupled with increasing
industrial development placed the Netherlands as a primary influence on European affairs.
