Modern Netherland Antilles
In 1643 the Dutch occupied Curacao, Bonaire & Aruba. The northern islands, known
as the Dutch Windward Islands, changed hands numerous times, remaining in Dutch hands from
the beginning of the
19th century. In 1845 the 6 six northern & southern islands were united
to form the Netherland Antilles. These
two groups of islands are approximately 800km apart.
