Late in the 8th century King Idris ibn Adballah created a united Berber & Arab monarchy which lasted for 200 years. During the 11th century the Almoravid dynasty conquered Morocco, Spain & western Algeria. The Almoravid dynasty was overthrown by another Muslim sect, the Almohads. Unrest continued for several centuries with naval wars between Morocco, Spain & Portugal. During the 17th century Morocco was secured by the Alawid dynasty which continues today. [BM] {UA}
