During the 20th century France, already secure in Algeria, began to control Morocco. Morocco would lose independence
as the nation was granted to France. Nationalist uprisings left the country unsettled until Morocco achieved
independence in 1956. Political unrest shadowed independence until a new constitution was established in 1977 &
leadership was secure. The Persian Gulf War left the already weak Moroccan economy in a worsened state.
