Modern Mexico

During the 1800's Mexico struggled for independence from Spain. The early years are marked by unrisings, executions & a brief Mexican Empire. In 1823 the Central American counties seceded and a republic was formed. In 1836 Texas seceded from Mexico which began a battle between Mexico & the U.S. with the occupation of Mexico city in 1847. In 1848 Mexico sold half its land claims including California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona & sections of New Mexico, Colorado & Wyoming for $15 million. [BM] {UA}
