Modern Mauritania
Mauritania, located on the
Atlantic Ocean became a Portuguese trading post during the 15th century. Portugual remained
dominant until the 1600's when the Dutch, British & French protested. In 1920 Mauritania
became a French colony. In
1960 Mauritania became an independent republic.
