Modern Liberia
Liberia became the first
African independent republic in the 19th century. The new government was established by
freed slaves. The constitution was modeled after that of the U.S. Liberia was supported &
encouraged by the U.S.
Freed American slaves & have had considerable authority in the
Liberean government since independence.
