Modern Laos

During WWII Laos was occupied by the Japanese. This occupation was brief, followed by local autonomy under the Luang Prabang monarchy. With some fighting against French colonialism, Laos received complete independence in 1955. During the 1970's Laos was overrun by the Vietnamese & has since been ruled as a communist state.
